“Worship The Father In Spirit And Truth!”
Jesus discusses a profound theological teaching not in a seminary, a church, a temple or synagogue. Again this great theological discussion is neither with a great scholar nor a holy wo/man of God! It takes place at a well with a woman who had had five husbands and was presently cohabiting with a man who was not married to her.
Yet Jesus discusses with her about the right way of worship, the right place of worship and the right attitude of the worshipper.
Through this discussion with the Samaritan woman, we learn that worship is not about location. Sometimes we argue about where to worship yet worshipping what we do not know and with the wrong frame of mind.
Jesus concludes, “…a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and truth.”
God is too big to be localised by any tribal or cultural grouping. God is too big to be caged within a denomination or a building called ‘church house!’
“True worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks”(Jn. 4:7-26).The worship of God is not about regularity of worship and fulfilment of all required obligations! While those are essential to keep the fellowship and enhance evangelisation, what is important is the genuineness of intent! “God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and truth.”
As spirit, he is everywhere. This means wherever you are, you are in his presence, meaning we must make an about turn from sin so as to constantly receive his grace! There can be no genuine worship in the midst of deepseated hatred, quarellings, backstabbing, betrayals and blatant refusals of existing wrongs! Truth in worship requires frank talk, forgiveness and reconciliation!
Prayer: Holy Spirit open my eyes to know that the Lord Jesus Christ is speaking to me now. Purify me so that I can worship the Father in spirit and truth. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
