“Through Jesus Christ We Have Received Grace And Truth!”
Each time I reflect on the personality of John the Baptist I see an epitome of humility that is nonparriel. Upon such reflection my prayer is always, “Lord, endow me with the spirit of humility so that I can be able to recognise those who are less than I am, yet more than me.” John the Baptist testified about Jesus with such humility when he said, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.'”
Some people may come after us but they were before us. This is to say our success had always depended on them, even without our knowledge.
Jesus Christ is anterior to all human beings; the Word which became flesh and dwelled among us. He came from the Father and he is full of Grace and truth.
In him and through him a fountain of blessings flow. That is why John the gospel writer points out that “from the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another…grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”
We do sing, “Na who wey Papa God never do good for yi…” There is none because through him “we have all received one blessing after another.” What this means is that it is not whether you believe in him or not. It is not about accepting him or not! It means that where the law was elastic, limited and discriminatory, God’s grace through Christ made everything inelastic, unlimited and indiscriminate!
Since from the moment when sin alienated us from the presence of God, he had become so transcendent such that we lost touch of his immanence. Thanks be to Jesus Christ who is at the Father’s side and has made him known”(Jn. 1:15-18).
Through Jesus Christ God’s abundant blessings is available to all of us. However, God makes ninety-nine steps towards us but expects us to make the one remaining step to receive what he has for each and everyone of us!
All it takes is to be convinced of your witnessing for Christ, the recognition and acknowledgment that no-one has been exempted from the superfluous blessings of God. And that Christ is the image through whom we see God.
Through Jesus Christ we have grace and truth, so we must cling to the truth where falsehood prevails; knowing that grace brings us undeserved pardon and abundance!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
