“The Spirit Of The Lord Will Come On David With Power!”
The anointing of David as king while Saul the reigning king was still alive is one of those biting ironies of fate. The prophet Samuel was disappointed with king Saul and was mourning. God asked Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king of Israel?…”
We do not choose ourselves to be what God wants. God chooses, but he also rejects when we run out of favour with him.
Even as a prophet, Samuel still considered size as criteria for selection. When he saw Eliab he thought Eliab was the perfect choice but God told him, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at things man look at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” And this is how “Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, ‘The Lord has not chosen these.'”
In this case God’s choice was the youngest who was out in the fields tending the sheep. This is how they had to bring little David from the field. When David came the Lord said to Samuel, “Rise and anoint him, he is the one”(I Sam. 16:1-13).
What we learn here is that many kings are sitting on their thrones basking in their glories when God has already rejected them. Secondly, even prophets like us can be short sighted to be deceived by size, but God does not look at outward appearances. Through human judgment we conclude wrongly on the choices we would prefer to pass before the Lord, but he is waiting for that little shepherd boy out in the field. When he arrives the Lord will say, “Rise and anoint him, he is the one!”
When it’s God’s time, little David will be anointed! God does it in his own good time! He chooses, but he also rejects!
Yes friend, your life may be that of a shepherd today, but when it’s time he will send Samuel to anoint you and all of us his elder brothers, his father Jesse and even the prophet will be mouth agape!
Here and there in the continent we suffer because kings are no the thrones, but are already rejected. He always eventually astonishes the people with his Davids who are still in the fields! One day Africa as a continent shall rejoice! Depend not on human strength but on the Lord!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
