“Take Care Of The Needs Of The Suffering People Around You!”
The story of the death of Jesus according to Matthew is so dramatic. As soon as Jesus cried out with a loud voice and gave up the ghost, “the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.” This curtain seperated the Holy of Holies from the general sanctuary and was only entered by a priest occasionally. The significance of the torn curtain is that the death of Jesus opened for all humanity free access to meet with God at a personal level.
“The earth shook and rocks split.” Above all, “Holy people who had died were raised to life and “they came out of their tombs after Jesus’ resurrection…” Even his death became a testimony for his Sonship as the terrified centurion guarding Jesus exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!” Yes indeed, even today he is the Son of God!
Despite the great acts of God in this story, what caught my attention is the last but one verse. “Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs…”(27:45-56).
The women know what it is to carry a baby in the womb for nine months and months of breatfeeding and offering the care that only women can offer.
This week our reflections are centred on giving up everything and giving self to Jesus Christ. The women gave up everything and followed Jesus from Galilee just to care for his needs.
Dear friend, make yourself available to care for the need of the suffering masses around you. They are Jesus Christ by your side because he said, “…whatever you did to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it for me”(Mtt.25:40). This is the least you can do in return to a man who gave his life for you and I!
Weekend Prayer: Lord help me to care for your needs through caring for the needs of others. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
