“…Our God Reigns And Has Comforted His People…!”
It always gets worse before it gets better. Some African myths of creation hold that God was very close to people but while pounding food or palmnuts the people were always hitting him with the pestle. He decided to shift to the sky. This is the opposite of the biblical version that because of sin, humanity was driven away from God’s presence. In the African story, man’s sin caused God to move away. Again humanity’s sin was not disobedience, it was that in the cause of making ends meet, humanity disturbed God.
Isaiah’s words to us this morning seems to give that impression of God going away before returning.
He says “Listen! Your watchmen shout for joy. When the Lord returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes. Burst in songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem…all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.”
Yes, it gets worse before it gets better! It gets worst when we go against the will of God. It is not like God abandons us completely. Far from it he neither leaves us nor forsake us; he walks with us everyday. It is sin that blinds us not to see his presence. When misfortune and dissaster overtakes and overwhelms us, God still sends his messengers to come with good news, they come to proclaim peace, they bring good tidings, they proclaim salvation and to say, “You God reigns!”(52:7-10).
Yes, our God reigns! And because he reigns, we can face tomorrow when all fear is gone and hope restored!
My friend, there is nothing we are passing through that others have not experienced in worst measure! Israel of old suffered the same, but the beautiful feet of the messengers brought goodnews to tell them that the ruins and desolation of Israel will be restored to its lost glory!
It is never a bed of roses, but be sure of this: With God on your side, the best is yet to come! Cheer up! Don’t give up on hope, but give up on sin and evil! Your God reigns!
Welcome to a new day and week of work! May God’s abundant, blessings and grace accompany you today and all through the week! Peace be with you!
