“May The Word Of Prophecy Come True In Your Life!”
Between today’s Bible reader and most of the biblical personae is simple dramatic irony. Most biblical characters were ignorant of what today’s readers know.
When Jesus told the twelve what was going to happen to him in Jerusalem, Luke says, “But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.”
Reading this over and over especially during every Lent season, we should understand and grasp what was said.
But have we understood and grasp what was said? If not, the difference between us and them is that they were naive, while we are adamant.
Jesus set his face towards Jerusalem fully aware of what awaited him there. We can say that since he knew that they will kill him, he could have aborted the mission.
However, we must remember that it was to ensure that “everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.”
Besides, his predicted suffering and death was not a tragedy. Like he said, “…they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise”(Lk. 18:31-34). The story had a happy ending! It did not end in fatality!
Beyond the humiliation, pain and destruction meted on us by our enemies, if we persist to the end, we shall sing songs of victory! To repeat myself, “no pain, no gain;” “no sweat, no sweet!” There is no easy life in the pursuit of the things of God.
Beyond the horizon of pain and death, there is glory from the Lord! Jesus is our example that if you put your hand to the plough there should be no looking back! The song writer says, “through the love of God our Saviour, all will be well…all, all is well…All must be well!”
Prayer: Holy Spirit, reveal what is hidden to me so that I may understand and grasp what the Lord Jesus Christ says. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
