“Make Yourself Beautiful/Handsome From Within!”
Conficius who lived before Christ is said to have said, “If there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in the character. If there is beauty in the character, there will be harmony in the home. If there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nations. When there is order in the nations, there will be peace in the world.”
It is in the same way that Peter considered that the inner adornment of a wife surpasses outward fineries. Paul advises the wives, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” The holy women of old were exemplary of such inner beauty, and are worth emulating by today’s generation.
Such inner godliness can easily win over an unbelieving husband, whereas outer beautification can hardly impress.
Husbands too have to be considerate the way they live with their wives, treat them with respect, recognising that naturally wives are the weaker partners. That notwithstanding, both sexes are co-heirs “of the gracious gift of life.”
When there’s this mutual understanding which springs from within, “nothing will hinder your prayers”(I Pt.3:1-7).
My friend, the peace we all crave for lies within you and I; that righteousness in the heart which produces beauty in character. If you genuinely seek peace, then begin from within yourself!
