“Lord, Hear Our Prayer And Heal Our Land!”
One reason why the Bible is called a “Living Book” is because it speaks to current context as if it was written for just that particular context.
Take the book of Lamentations, “funeral songs” probably by Jeremiah, “who was grieving over the destruction of Jerusalem.” Lamentations seems to be funeral songs for my beloved homeland: “How deserted lies the city, once so full of people!…”
Yes; the other day we saw drones of people fleeing the homeland for fear of the uncertain days ahead. Hundreds have been untimely sent to be with their ancestors and once booming and vibrant villages lie in ruins and abandonment!
Just like Lamentation points out, we have brought this destruction upon ourselves. We have “sinned greatly and so has become unclean…”
Having known this let us cry out to the Lord like Jeremiah did, “Look, Lord, on our affliction, for the enemy has triumphed…Look, Lord, and consider for we are despised…”(1:1-12).
My people, God is angry with us! We have angered him with our idolatory! Rid the land of “Odeshi”, “Nyongo”, “Kupe” and the idolization of wealth!
Let us all turn to the One who once hung upon the cross from whom will come the healing of our land! Let us take this week to pray for genuine repentance, emptying ourselves of all hatred and doing away with all the gods that we worship!
Prayer: Lord we have sinned and brought down your anger upon the land. Father forgive us and restore our lost glory. Amen!
Welcome back to work and may the Lord hear us and give us a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
