“Go For The Truth That Liberates!”
Truth is defined as “that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality,” while ‘True’ is what “Is accurate or exact,” “in accordance with fact or reality.” Truth is a complex web difficult to reason out clearly even in philosophy of religion!
The words, “truth, true and truly” were constantly on Jesus’ lips. But he remained mute when Pilate asked him, “What is truth?”(Jn. 18:38).
A familiar expression by Jesus which has been lifted out of context and used loosely is “…you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” You cannot know the truth without the preceding verse, “to the Jews who believed him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then…”
Just like the Jews we too can say we “have never been slaves to anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
Again like the Jews we fail to realise that “everyone who sins is a slave to sin” and “has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed”(Jn. 8:31-36).
We live in a world which thrives on falsehood and deceit; a world where you speak the truth but no-one seems to understand because human justice is for the high and mighty.
Those who pursue the path of truth and justice are a threat to the majority.
The truth which liberates depends on believing in Jesus and holding to his teaching. Note that Jesus is addressing insiders like us his followers (Jews who believed him)! We have believed, but do we hold on to his teaching?
Only by holding on to his teaching can a person know the truth that Liberates! Deep spiritual insights and the fruits of the spirit begin to manifest itself in our lives when we hold on to the teaching of Jesus Christ. Holding on to his teaching pulls us away from the grip of sin. As long as sin still rule in our lives we “have no permanent place in the family” of God!
And since Jesus Christ is the Son who belongs to the homestead for ever, if he “sets you free, you will be free indeed!” This is called, “the love and grace of God!”
Therefore my friend, if you want to know the truth that will set you free, believe in Jesus Christ and hold on to his teaching!
Seek the truth that Liberates as you ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen you so that saved by grace you may have a permanent residence in the household of God!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
