“Give Up Everything You Have, Give Yourself To Jesus Christ!”

These days we measure successful soul-winning by the swelling membership that we have. Quite often we are less concerned with how committed those thousands are in true discipleship.
A large crowd was travelling with Jesus but he was seemingly not interested in the numbers. Jesus the mind reader sensed the motives of the many within the “larger crowd” that were travelling with him.
Jesus used many examples to remind them that following him entails the abanfonment of mundane things to which we are always glued to. He says following him is not just picjing your purse and to hit the road. One has to reflect deeply whether one is ready to make the sacrifce of giving up on self.
Three essentials to which we are glued are time, money and talent. Any of these can distract any person from following Jesus. At the same time once you have reflected well and made the decision to follow him, you bring any of the above and place at his feet for his service.
So he is blunt with us: “…any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple”(Lk.14:25-33).
This is practically near impossible in today’s materialistic world centred on greed and selfcentredness!
To go by Jesus’ conditiins, one may raise the question whether there are any disciples.
My friend, use what you have for the service of the Lord.
Prayer: Lord help me to give up everything and give myself to you. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
