“Do Your Work As A Trusted Servant!”
Kings are supposedly a cultured and well-behaved class of people. But to demonstrate their authority they often act savagely, exercising brute force to have their way. In African societies most natural rulers have as totem animals like the lion, tiger, elephant and scorpion. The first three can be quickly understood as depicting strength and size, but the scorpion is equally as dangerous as its bite or sting is poisonous.
God’s choice is however a reverse. The one on whom he has chosen and on whom he had put his Spirit is a weakling, yet he is the one who will bring justice to the nations.
God reveals his strength in our weaknesses. Kings are powerful, they rule from the perspective of strength, so they shout down on others and raise their voices to silence contrary opinions.
But God’s servant “will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets…” He won’t even break a bruised reed, or snuff out a smouldering wick. “In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth”(Is.42:1-9). This is the kind of weakling that Jesus the Son of God was; yet he is the Redeemer of the world, King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
My friend, if this is who God’s favoured Son was like, who are you to want to be a Goliath before he puts his Spirit on you? God’s ways are not our ways! When you are crushed and are down, when you are evaluated by human standards and dismissed with a wave of the hand, remain humble and wait upon the Lord! He wants to do a new thing in your life and to the glory of his people!
The firefly is insignificant among the kings of the jungle but its light is a glimmer of hope to those under precarious situations in utter darkness!
Be who you are just as the Lord wants you to be! You cannot be what God does not want you to become, but you shall become what God said will be: a light to those in darkness and a source of hope to those who have given up hope in hopeless situations! You are called to be a servant and not a boss! Serve God with humility in whatever task you have been assigned to do! If as a butterfly you cannot soar in flight like a bird just remember you were once a caterpillar with a snail-like pace! Do your work to be approved by God and not to receive the applause of men! Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
