“Happy Ascension Day!”
It is said a booming congregation split in two just because of a doctrinal argument relating to the Apostles Creed. The bone of contention was the phrase “…sitteth at the right hand of God…” Some people argued that Jesus cannot be sitting all the time without at least rising to stretch himself and relax a bit. What a mundane way of reasoning spiritual issues!
The actions and works of the ascended Christ is in the present continuous. This is well reflected in his continuous action while ascending up to heaven. Luke recounts, “…he lifted his hands and blessed them. While blessing them, he left them and was taken up to heaven.” I consider this to mean even as he was ascending, his hands remained lifted up blessing them.
No wonder they worshipped him before returning to Jerusalem with great joy. “And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God”(24:50-53).
Some spiritual insights to bear in mind on this Ascension Day:
1.The Risen and ascended Lord is continually blessing those who remain in him and with him.
2. The response from you is to worship him and be filled with “great joy” because the Lord’s blessings is upon you always!
3. Lastly, praise God in his sanctuary for the blessings of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ!
Prayer: I praise you Lord for your never ending blessings. Keep me always in your presence. Amen!
Happy and blessed Ascension Day! Peace be with you all!
