“Lord Give Me A Discerning Spirit…!”
You have planned for a journey to take off very early in the morning. You tried your car in the evening and everything was perfect. In the morning you enter the car, wave goodbye to family, start the car but it won’t start. You think that it may be the battery. You try rolling the car to no avail. So what do you do? Maybe you stamp your feet on the ground, hit the car and curse technology!
But you may fail to see God’s hand in it all. Yet you are used to saying “God works in mysterious ways.”
God who is the Lord of the universe speaks to us through all the created things.
Seek the Spirit of God always and you will be sensitive to the things of God around you! Do not maltreat your pet for behaving unusually towards you; God may be using that innocent creature to save your life!
That is what happened to Balaam and his donkey. Balaam was going on a mission that displeased the Lord. God’s angel stood on the road to oppose him. Balaam didn’t see the angel. “When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the road into a field. Balaam beat her to get her back to the road…”(Num 22:21ff). This happened thrice before the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth to speak.
If God does not want you to do something, he has many ways by which he can stop you! Secondly, be sensitive to the unusual behaviours and attitudes of those who have been trustworthy to you. According to you they may be disobedient, but they have seen the danger you are in and want to save your life! Always remember that “God works in mysterious ways!”
