“Your Salvation Is Everlasting!”
Today begins the four week season of Advent in the Church year. During this season we prepare ourselves on how to receive the Lord Jesus Christ on Christmas. The liturgical colour during this season, just as in the season of Lent is violet.
These are seasons in which we prepare ourselves to be found worthy to receive the Saviour of the world.
Advent reminds us that the life which we plan to celebrate on Christmas day was given for us on Calvary on Good Friday. During Advent we remind ourselves of the second coming of Jesus Christ when he comes as Judge.
Today God reminds us through Isaiah of what he has planned to do: “The law will go out from me and my justice will become a light to the nations. My righteousness draws near speedily, my salvation is on the way…”
The heavens and the earth and its inhabitants may pass away, but God’s salvation will last forever and his righteousness will never fail. That is why those who know what is right, who have his law in their hearts should “not fear the reproach of men or be terrified by their insults…”
Therefore my dear friend, a good preparation for Christmas is to know and do what is right and to have God’s law in your heart. If you do, you cannot be overwhelmed by prevailing circumstances; not matter how rough and bleak the present may present itself! Remember, God’s righteousness will last forever and his salvation through all the generations.
This blessed assurance is for you and I: “the ransomed of the Lord will return…everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away” (Is.51:4-11).
We may know the date to celebrate Christmas, but the second coming will be like a thief in the night, taking us unawares. That is why we must be alert not to be victims of false messiahs! Do not let Christ find you sleeping. “Watch!” (Mk 13:21-37). While waiting we should continue to “encourage one another and to build each other up”(I Th.5:1-11).
Sunday prayer: Almighty God thank you for the assurance of everlasting salvation in Jesus Christ. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
