“When The Spirit Of Truth Comes…!”(Jn.16:12-15).
Recently we heard about a man who was arraigned in a Kenyan court for claiming to be Jesus Christ. On one of the hearings the lawyers for his defense asked the court to provide evidence that the man was not Jesus Christ. Still in another African country, in an interview another impostor said he was Jesus Christ and that right where he was, a thousand angels were with him. Some ministers of the gospel have caused their Christians to transfer family cars, houses, landed properties to the church/minister under the pronouncement, “The Spirit has asked me to tell you that bla, bla, bla!”
Scriptures urges us to test every spirit to be able to know if it is of God (I Jn.4:1).
The Lord Jesus Christ left us with these words, among others: “But when he, the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.”
We note that the Spirit is the Spirit of truth and will lead us into all truths. The Spirit does not act independently. He speaks only what he hears and he tells us also “what is yet to come.” The Spirit brings glory to Christ by taking what is Christ’s and making it known to us. What belongs to Christ belongs to the Father.
As it is, it is difficult to argue a person’s claim that “the Spirit has told me that…” However, there are parameters set by scriptures which can help us discern the true Spirit. “This is how you can recognise the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming…”(I Jn.4:2-3).
The Lord Jesus Christ says all sins may be forgiven but sin against the Holy Spirit is unforgivable(Mt.12:31).
May we make ourselves available to the Spirit of truth so that he can guide us into all truth and tell us what is yet to come.
Prayer: Spirit of truth guide me into all truth and tell me what is yet to come. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
