“Trust And Obey The Lord!”
Over the generations death has been a horrible monster to humanity. Our mortality is hardly accepted by us. Back in time prophet Isaiah comforted his people with the assuring words that God “will swallow up death forever.”
In keeping with his plans God kept to his words. When Jesus rose from the dead, death was finally swallowed. Jesus Christ has brought about the ultimate destruction of death. “Death the great and prideful swallower has finally been swallowed up!
The sting and scare of death has been taken away. We the chosen no longer mourn our departed loved ones in hopelessness because we know the dead will arise. We may have shed lots of tears through the now scary COVID-19 pandemic, through man-made senseless wars and through natural causes. We may have gone astray provoking God’s anger, such that he allowed our enemies to triumph over us. But hear these consoling words: “The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth.”
Through Christ our salvation has come. The God we trust has saved us. “Let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation”(Is.25:8-9).
The key word here is “trust.” When we trust in the Lord we become like a mountain which cannot be moved. Trust does not walk alone. Trust is always accompanied by obedience. The song writer reminds that, “When we walk with the Lord, in the light of his Word, what a glory he sheds on our way! While we do his good will, He abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey. Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus than to trust and obey…”
