“To Share The Burden Is To Share The Blessing!”(Num.11:11-17&24-25).
Folk wisdom holds that “The size of an elephant’s phaeces is a reflection of the quantity of the food it eats.” In pidgin english, we say, “Big man, big trouble.”
Moses was saddled with the responsibility of taking the Israelites out of Egypt and lead them to the promised land. But the wailing of the people was beginning to weigh him down.
He felt broken and in prayer he asked why God had to bring such trouble on him? At that point of brokenness, Moses prefered death to life.
God promised to lighten his burden by using seventy of Israel’s elders who were known to Moses as leaders and officials among the people. Moses brought the seventy and the LORD came down in a cloud, “and took of the Spirit that was on Moses and put the Spirit on the seventy elders.”
God’s show of mercy to Moses by lightening his burden was accompanied by taking away some of the Spirit from Moses and putting it on the others. This is to say the burden we carry for the service to humanity is commensurate to the Spirit we have been blessed with. To make our burdens light part of the blessings we have must be taken from us to be given to those who are called to assist us carry the load reduced from us.
My friend, this is to say, whenever you cry to the LORD for being overburdened he comes to your assistance by asking you to bring those you know to be capable leaders. He does not only reduce your burden and give to them, he also takes some of the gifts lavished on you to give to them as well.
The LORD was capable of directly putting his Spirit on the seventy, but he decided to take but the Spirit that was in Moses to put on them. Lesson: *Responsibilities come with abilities to surmount the accompanying challenges. But when you cry to the LORD that the load is too much to bear, he sends those to help you. He does not only transfer part of your load to others; he equally transfers some of those endowed abilities to those your assistants.
Yes, God responds to your cry for help, reduces your burdens and lets others share your burden. But those others must also share the Spirit he first gave to you so that you are no longer a superior, but a *”first among equals!”*
Prayer: LORD, make my burdens lighter through assistants and let them also be beneficiaries of the Spirit you have given to me. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
