“The Bread Of Life!”(Jn.6:30-36).
Jesus had left a crowd on the other side of the lake. When the crowd found him again, they asked how he got there? He replied that they were not looking for him because of the miraculous signs, “but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you…”(Jn.6:1-28).
To a question they asked further about the work of God, Jesus replied that “the work of God is…to believe in the one he has sent.”
When the subject does not suit our interests, we keep asking meaningless questions to get the teacher distraught.
They asked Jesus, “What miraculous sign then will you give that we may see it and believe in you? Our forefathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'”
This is the question that has raised charlatans in the service of the Lord as they fake miracles so that the people should believe that they are genuine!
Again, their flashback to history about the manna in the desert is making “the Food Gospel” to trend!
If we agree that a tree is known by its fruits, then the tell-tale is clear. The vision of those who guide the world to the spiritual has been obliterated by greed and avarice. Greed and avarice are spurred by the vaunting ambition and the uncontrolled love of the materialism of the mundane world!
My friend, The Food Gospel and the Gospel of Miracle relegates the Full Gospel to the background; distorting it to the point of giving enough reasons for the enemies of Christ to see him as a fake.
Coming back to our senses is to remind ourselves that Jesus neither gave them a miraculous sign nor give them any bread – just because they asked. He gives when he sees your need, he does not give to seek your approval.
The bread Jesus gives is spiritual. It is more than physical bread because it satisfies both physically and spiritually. Jesus declares:“I am the bread of life.” This is the first of the seven “I am” words in John with historical roots in the burning bush when God gave his name to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” Tell the Israelites, “‘I AM’ has sent me.”(Ex.3:14).
My friend, Jesus, the bread of life gives you and I this assurance: “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty…”
Do you believe in him?
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, I believe in you that you are the bread of life. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
