“Take Care Of The Sheep Like An Owner And Not A Hireling!”
In Mungaka it is said, “mbeñ ndeñ ka mi soñti'” meaning a big bundle of bamboos got finished because they kept removing a bamboo each without loosening the bundle. By this it is meant that “unity is strength.” It is also to say that the owner should jealously guard the bundle of bamboos so as to put it to the proper use for which it was intended.
Once you take a thousand out of a million it is no longer a million, and if that was your only million then you are no longer a millionaire.
One may be a minority but many ones make a majority. It is not because the sheep owner has a thousand sheep that he will ignore the loss of one sheep.
Jesus says, “If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?” Yes of course; he will do just that! It is good to go and search for, and bring back the sheep that had been lost.
The falling away of some may not mean anything to us, but God himself is not willing that any of the little ones should be lost. Jesus says, “See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven”(Mtt.18:10-14).
My friend, only a hired hand will ignore to search for a missing sheep. The true owner will abandon the rest to go in search of the one missing sheep. At any level of leadership where you are strive to be an owner and not a hired shepherd.
God is concerned for the lost soul and he expects us to have the same concern for the lost. Let us be each other’s keeper!
Prayer: Holy Spirit lead me to do the work of an owner and not to behave as a hireling. Amen!
