“Stand On The Covenat Promises Of The LORD!”(Gen.15:7-18).
At that crucial moment when Jesus needed his closest aides to stay awake for him, he came and met them sleeping. He asked if they could not have kept watch for one hour. And he told them in the same way he is telling us now,Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation…”*(Mk.14:32-42).
In fact, sleeping at the wrong time has a negative repercussion for our offspring as it can disrupt the perfect plan of God’s covenant promise. This is well reflected in the story of the covenant between the LORD and Abram.
*”Land of promise, land of glory…”* Whoever coined these lines of the National Anthem must have had in his thoughts the covenant promise to Abram.“I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it.”
Of course, of what value is the promise of land to any of us if there are no offspring to continue the heritage of the land! That is why the LORD told Abram that his offspring shall be like the stars in the heavens.
But Abram’s weakness for sleeping at the wrong time caused the promise of the LORD to be disrupted by about 400 years of slavery in Egypt before the exodus and another 40 yesrs of desert wanderings before his offspring entered the promised land.
My friend, it is important to stand on the promises of God. In our journey of faith we should always keep awake, watch and pray so as not to be overtaken by temptation!
Some of us may be experiencing homelessness now because at the time when our ancestors were expected to enter into serious covenant cutting, they went frolicking and slumbering! The consequences is for us to bear the slavery and exile until the LORD’s appointed time is over.
The LORD’s promises in his cutting covenant never fails, but we must live daily by fulfilling our own part of the covenant terms by trusting and obeying the LORD.
He is the LORD who does not change and whose promises are sure. Trust and obey him.
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit help me daily to stay awake in my covenant relationship with the LORD through Jesus Christ his Son. Amen!
Welcome to a new working day and week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
