“Seeking The LORD’s Face!”(Rev.22:1-5).
There is an African belief that if somebody on his siickbed dies facing the back of the bed it means he is angry with those he is leaving behind. And so each time the person turns his back to the people, those nursing him turns him to face the front as soon as they can.
Out of experience our people also conclude that there are some people who bring you blessings if they happen to be the first person you see when you get up in the morning. Seeing means exhanging greetings, and exhanging greetings means looking at each other face to face. On the other hand, there are people who spoil your day if you see them in the morning.
The “Big Brother’s eyes are watching you” from George Orwell’s novel, “1984” is what has generated the iconoclastic syndrome of keeping the pictures of leaders in homes and offices. But even so, people have been known to keep these pictures to save their jobs and positions, while they curse the person, even in their dreams. They hardly look at the pictures.
Yes, there are faces that brighten up your day, as well as faces that turns the day into nightmare! It is common to hear a pregnant woman telling somebody, “Don’t look at me, I don’t want my child to resemble you.”
The LORD told Moses to tell Aaron and his sons to bless the people with these words: “The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”(Num.6:24-26).
In his time ofdistress Job was confident to say, “I know that my Redeemer lives…I myself will see him with my own eyes…”(Job.19:25-27). Yes, we see God when he makes his face to shine upon us. And this is possible only when we are living the summary of the commandments as summarized by our Lord Jesus Christ.
But when we drift away from the LORD he says, “When you spread your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you…”(Is.1:18).
John tells us that in the time of our future glory, “No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.”
My friend, these things will take place sooner than later. It is good to make peace with God and with one another so that we too shall be among those who will see his face.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit make me worthy to be among those who will see the face of the LORD. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
