“Return To The Shepherd And Overseer Of Your Life!”
“Think About This: 200,000 people who had grand plans for their lives suddenly died. What’s there to fight anyone about?…” I read the above words this morning on a friend’s wall.
Indeed there is nothing there to fight anyone about!
But there is someone who has taught us the meaning of life.
Jesus Christ is the Shepherd and Overseer of our lives. If we live and die for him, then there is nothing like “sudden death!”
Mary McKee and the Genesis says “life without Christ is shattered dreams.”
Like Mckee we took the decision to leave home and family, leaving all the love behind as we think we are old enough to stand by our own. Reality only hits us when nothing we planned turned out right.
However God is always there accompanying us in our foolhardy wanderings, giving us enough time to realise how wrong we have been.
Being the compassionate God that he is, he declared: “I myself will search for my lost sheep and look after them…I will…bring back the strays…I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak… I will shepherd the flock with justice”(Ez.34:11-16).
Jesus declared: “…I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep… I am the good shepherd, I know my sheep and they know me – just as the Father knows me and I know Father…The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life…”(Jn.10:11-16).
The good shepherd is a risk bearer ready to defend the sheep from wild beasts and even die in the process.
Jesus laid down his life for our sake. “When they hurled insults at him he did not retaliate, when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body… so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. For we were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls”(I Pt.2:21-25).
My friend, this is what Jesus left as an example for us to follow: sacrificial love. That we should learn to turn the other cheek when they slap us on the other cheek because “vengeance is of the Lord!” We should be willing to stand together because there is nothing to fight anyone about! Our time here is too brief and very unpredictable.
Sunday prayer: Thank Lord Jesus Christ for teaching me sacrificial love. Holy Spirit lead me in the Master’s footsteps. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
