“Repent And Regain Paradise Lost!” (Rev. 2:1-7).
Chronologically the letter to the church in Ephesus is the first of the letters addressed to the seven early churches. A major characteristics of all the letters is that they are addressed to the angels of the churches. This is very important to note. The spirit controlling any church, institution or organisation depends on the guardian angel. When the angel looks the other way things go awry, but when the angel is awake and watchful blessings upon blessings is experienced.
Just take a cursory glance at your church, institution or organisation and see the way things are going. If all is well, then the angel is doing his work well, but if all is not well, then pray for the angel to sit up.
That notwithstanding, the Ephesian church was quite on track, but their best was still not good enough. Their hardwork and perseverance was commendable. They also would not toletate wicked men who claimed to be apostles but were fake.
Above all they hated the practices of the Nicolaitans which the Lord also hates. (Nicolaitans was a heretical sect that compromised faith with the practice of idolatory and immorality).
Despite their good deeds, the Ephesian church had her own shortcomings for which they needed repentance. They had forsaken their first love.
The lesson we draw from this is that any church is guilty of some kind of sin for which repentance is necessary. Individuals at their conversion and churches starts with good intentions, but as time progresses, nonchalance and formalism takes over and certain sins become normal practice and are no longer considered to be sins,
To us as individuals and as churches this is the message: “Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent…He who has ears, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give him the right to eat from the tree of life, which is the paradise of God. “
Yes, paradise lost through sin can be regained through repentance. The tree of life is still standing in the garden of Eden and its fruit is available to whoever repents and returns to Christ our first love.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit rekindle in me the love and yearning for Christ my first love and let my love not grow cold. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
