“Perpetual Praise!”(Eph.5:15-21).
Singing and dancing is a unique feature of African Christianity. It emmanates from African culture. Missionary Christianity almost robbed Africans of this unique culture. But Africans found out for themselves that singing and dancing resonates with Jewish and New Testament requirements.
Singing does not only rests the soul; it does not only entertain, it also educates and informs. Through songs oral history is passed on from generation to generation. Through songs religious formulas are transmitted from one era to the other.
There is no better way by which we can express our feelings and understanding of the divine except through songs and singing.
Paul encourages us to “Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ…”
However, if we are not in the right frame of mind; if we are not in a right relationship with God and with one another, we cannot express ourselves through singing. Therefore, we have to be very careful how we live. We should live as wise people, “making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. We shouldn’t be foolish, “but understand what the Lord’s will is;” not getting drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery.
Instead, we should “be filled with the Spirit.” And we should “submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
Dear friend, let us not keep going on like a dog in the chase that has lost scent of its prey. Let us retrace our footsteps and pick up the scent of the “Old time religion!”
Keep this as a treasure for the day and week: “Be very careful…how you live…because the days are evil…Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of Jesus Christ.”
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit indwell me and make me sing a new song to the LORD for what he has done through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working day and week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
