“Make Yourself Ready For The Day Of The Lord!”(Mal.3:1-4).
After seven years in Europe Doh came home to marry the love of his life. The girl’s parents doubted his fidelity. They insisted that the couple must do HIV test. The guy refused, but the more he refused the more the parents of the girl insisted that “No HIV test, no marriage!”
The boy finally accepted. They went for the test at medical institutions recommended by the girl’s parents. When the results came out the boy’s result was negative but the girl’s result showed that she was sero-positive.
Things are not always the way they look.
The Jews were longing for the day of the Lord with the hope that the Lord will come to crush the unrighteous and restore his chosen people to their past glories.
The prophet Malachi asked,“But who can endure the day of the Lord? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launder’s soap…he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness, and the offerings…will be acceptable to the Lord as in the days gone by, as in former years.”
Even in our time we long for former years. The war that is raging in the North West and South West is a longing for days gone by, former years when moral standards were high and there was genuine fear of the Lord in the hearts of people!
When Christ comes again he will purify first those who have been called to shepherd and guide his flock (Levites). No doubt James advises,“Not many of you should presume to be teachers…because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in many ways…”(Jm.3:1-2).
The shepherds are to be blamed for the broken legs of all sheep that were once whole!
There is a sense in which we are all shepherds since we are called upon to be one another’s keeper. Let us not insist on a test because we think that the boy may be positive only for us to receive a slap on the face!
As we long for the day of the Lord let us continue to be introspective so as to be confident of ourselves in denying a test; not because we fear to be found positive, but because we know that we are negative!
Let us prepare the way because “suddenly the Lord we are seeking will come to his temple.”
Prayer: Holy Spirit keep strengthening me so that I can stand when the Lord appears. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
