“Love The Lord Your God And Serve Him Only!”
The religions of the ancient Near Eastern world was polytheism. In their daily lives worshippers had to worship one god or the other, depending on what one was asking for. Each god had its own interest and the gods were sometimes in rivalry.
In the midst of this, Israel had to be constantly reminded through what has come to be known as the “Shema” of the oneness of their God.
In our generation we are walking the same tightrope as we are surrounded with the gods of our generation: mamon, capitalism, esoteric fraternities, emphasis on scientific proofs and our regular ancestral gods.
The reminder to Israel and what to do is timely for us too:
“Shema Israel…” – “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commabdnents that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”
As we all know for a fact, none of us brought anything into the world. From the first day of birth we started enjoying the fruits of the labours of parents. As we mature in years, the circle of those whose sweat we enjoy keeps expanding.
So therefore my dear friend, when you enjoy life as in now, be careful not to forget the Lord who has been the source of your provisions; especially the free air that you breath.
Importantly, “Fear the LORD your God, serve him only…”(Dt.6:4-13). Through Jesus Christ God the Father daily provides for us the fullness of life, and the Holy Spirit helps us to keep the commandments of God.
Prayer: Holy Spirit ignite in me the fire of unconditional love for God and the zeal to obey his commandments. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
