“Living By The Golden Rule!”(Rom.12:17-21).
“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord. On the contrary, If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing all this, you will be heaping burning coals on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”(Rom.12:17-21).
The words of the Very Rev. Dr. Festus A. Asana keep resounding in me. As he left office as Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC), he said he learned how to overpower his enemies, not by returning their punches, but by learning how to dodge their blows.
There’s no better way of living love and overcoming our enemies than by living and demonstrating this loving treaties on love in Romans above.
We remind ourselves that God in Christ Jesus takes us just as we are, not on the basis of what we have become. However, his transforming power of love should be made visible in our daily walk with Christ Jesus.
God in Christ Jesus takes us to makes us what he wants us to become. This transformation is a process and not an event. We may not suddenly become what Romans say we should be. But as we live one day at a time, the process of renewal is set in motion in our lives and reveals itself in the way we live our horizontal relationship with one another!
We are on the right course when we let go, when we live and let others live, and when we leave vengeance to God! May the Holy Spirit work this renewal in all of us for the possible realisation of the brotherhood of mankind. Let this begin from me and from you; rippling within the local communities where we live and the immediate Church families to which we belong. And thereafter extending to the world we long to make a better place than we met it.
Prayer: Holy Spirit continue to inspire me with the spirit which enforces love for everybody, but hates vengeance on my enemies. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
