“Let Your Kingdom Come, O Lord!” (II Sam.7:4-6&12-14a).
God does not allow us to accomplish everything in his name. Each person is a grain of sand in a truckload of sand. We are insignificant as individuals but just like the sand, we do collectively achieve great things for the Lord.
David had a passion to build a temple befitting of the Lord’s dwelling, but God told him, “When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you…He is the one who will build a house for my Name…”
God is wise. He does not want an individual to do it all. Otherwise the one may be puffed up and fall into the sin of pride, arrogance, self-glorification and demigod position desirous of human praise.
God eventually raised up Solomon who finally built the house of the Lord. God alone deserves all our praises.
That notwithstanding, Nathan’s prophecy went beyond Solomon. God said, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you…I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his father, and he will be my son.” Jesus Christ is that offspring and he is that temple that attracts all who are to be saved. He is God’s only begotten son. His kingdom is not of this world. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. Through Christ the Name of the Lord is inscribed in the hearts of humans and his glories resound all around the world. Glory be to God!
As we prepare to commemorate his birth in a few days ahead, let us share in his glory by thanking God by submitting to his will and obedience to his commandments.
Prayer of the week: Heavenly Father thank you for making me a free citizen in the kingdom of your Son. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week. Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
