“Keeping The Covenant Through Rest!”(Ex.31:12-17).
“You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so that you may know that I am the LORD who makes you holy. Observe the Sabbath because it is holy to you…”
In my village “Foncham” is a day of rest. But on Foncham people can do light work like, going to fetch just food or carry firewood from short-distance farms. They can also clean around the compound or do laundry.
Christians make more prayers on the Sabbath day (Sunday) than on other days. These prayers are made with the conviction that the LORD hears and answers – hopefully on the same day.
Praying on the Sabbath day is giving God no rest on the Sabbath. Just imagine the millions of prayers he listens to on a Sabbath!
What we are saying is that a day of rest is not necessarily a day of idling. It is a day to intentionally engage in holy activities and activities that may save a life.
“Sabbath-day activities may include: praying, meditating, studying the scriptures… reading wholesome material, spending time with family, visiting the sick and distressed, and attending other Church meetings.”
However, the Lord Jesus Christ has made old things become new. He is the Lord of the Sabbath, he is the centre who holds all things together. As we follow in his footsteps, we should observe God’s holy days in the same way that he did.
We note however that holiness cannot be the preserve of a single day only. We should work for daily holiness because our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit.
It is by being holy that we are enabled to see the glory of God. For he says, “Be holy because I am holy.” And as we sing, “…without holiness no-one can see God. “
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit help me to observe the LORD’s day of rest by engaging only in activities that are holy. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working day and week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
