“Holy Spirit Do Not Depart From Us!”
Some biblical scholars say Acts of the Apostles should better be called, “Acts of the Holy Spirit “ because every action of the book is the work of the Holy Spirit. Firstly, the apostles were not to leave Jerusalem until they had received the Holy Spirit.
The one major action which the disciples took when the promised Holy Spirit had not yet come was finding a replacement for Judas Iscariot. But even so, it was Scripture that had to be fulfilled “which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through the mouth of David…” that “May another take his place of leadership”
After praying for two men whom they selected, they cast lots and the lot fell on Matthias (Acts.1:12-26).
What we learn is that replacements shouldn’t be by manipulations, but by prayer. Unfortunately over the years we have seen worst manipulations of elections both within the secular and sacred realms where during elections people employ all means to get what they want! At such moments, God seems to be relegated to the background and other forces are sought after! Only God can save us.
Anytime that succession is manipulated anywhere, there is bound to be catastophy either in the short or long run! Nemesis is for real! Any leader who scatters rather gather, any leader whose heart is full of venom, any leader whose everyday agenda is to destroy at any cost those who do not align with him or her is an agent of the devil! Such a person when s/he falls, the crash will be thunderous and more catastrophic than the fall of humpty dumpty!
Replacement is done so that the one who takes over continues the apostolic ministry. May God redirect us through the Holy Spirit to return to that old time religion of Acts where the Holy Spirit was at work in the lives of the believers, prompting them to prayer and fasting; enabling them to live in love and fellowship.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit continue in us the work you began with the early believers by determining for us the choices we make. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
