“God Will Give You A New Name!”
As I spent this week marking the cards of Christians at Bamenda Station congregation the shocking discovery is the number of displaced persons from all over the North West region. This tells you how bad the situation is!
The recent upsurge in burning of houses, wanton destructions and killings is only making a bad situation worst! Few weeks back I was positive that life was returning to my village until hell was let loose upon the land as never before!
That notwithstanding, my people had braved themselves for such calamities by confidently stating that “you do not abandon your farm to the monkeys.” They can never eat up all the maize in the farm. Besides, when hot water was thrown on the bedbugs, the baby bugs that were not used to hot water were writhing in pain. Their mother comforted them not to cry because whatever is hot will surely get cold.”
Yes, the good book says “And it came to pass…” This too shall surely come to pass someday sooner or later.
Like Isaiah of old we would not relent our efforts in telling both the displaced people and the remnants who still brave it against all odds that “The Lord will call you back as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit…” because his “unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed”(54:6&10).
Yes my friend, “I will not remain quiet” till our righteousness shines out like dawn and our salvation like a blazing torch. “No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate…for the Lord will take delight in you…” and “you will be called by a new name(62:1-5).
Yes, “weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes in the morning!” Let us rid our hearts of envy, malice, jealousy, hatred, anger and bitterness so that the Lord may make his face shine upon us and be gracious to us once more!
Prayer: Lord make us a crown of splendour and a royal diadem in your hand. Amen!
