“Go After The Lost Sheep!”(Mt.18:10-14).
Going in search of the lost sheep is important to any cattle owner. My people say, “Mbèn ndòñ ka mi so’nti!” – a big bundle of bamboo got finished by removing one bamboo after the other. My translation may not be good, but every translation is a betrayal.
He who has a big flock and keeps ignoring the disappearances of one sheep may soon have no flock at all. Good leadership is about showing concern for the strayed and heady sheep.
The musician asks in frustration, “Pikin di cry o, instead for papa for askam say ‘Na weti you di cry?’ Pikin di cry o, papa di vex o, o, Africa na wusai we di go?” – The child is crying. Instead of the father asking, “Why are you crying?’, the child is crying and the father is being angry. Africa, where are we heading to?”
Servanthood leadership being concerned about the strayed or lost sheep. We do not stay away from the lost or strayed sheep for any reason whatsoever! We go after the lost sheep and when we find it, we bring it back to the fold with a lot of joy!
Some time last year I wondered why we have easily been caught up with the faulty teaching that we should keep our distances from the strayed. I asked, “What about Jesus’ teaching that it is good to go in search of the lost sheep?”
The Lord Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd par excellence says, “See that you do not look down on one of these little ones.” Very true! Desiderata says “even the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story…”
Our Lord continues, “If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is the happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.”
Dear friend, be careful the way you treat others when you are in a position of power and authority. The day comes when “authority forsakes a dieing king!” Do not look down on any of the little ones. S/he was right who said, on your way up treat everybody you bypass with love because they are the same people you will meet on your way down” I add that your worst nightmare will not come from the people you bypassed on your way up. Your worst nightmare is when you meet those people who searched for the ladder and held it for you to climb; but whom you pelted with fruits you plucked from the tree! Be humble and lead others with the fear of the LORD for that is the beginning of wisdom!
Our Father in heaven does not delight in the death of any sinner. We too should do our best to lead the lost to Christ so that they too can know him and the power of his resurrection!
Prayer: Holy Spirit guide me daily to be a good leader showing concern even for the least of those I lead. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
