“Faith Makes You Well!”(Lk.17:11-19).
In a meditation a colleague and friend told how she took a flight from Douala to Accra with a stopover in Lagos. In the plane were people who were going to meet prophet TB Joshua (now of blessed memory). On her return flight – which coincided with the visit of the Pope to Cameroon – were people who were coming to receive the blessings of the Pope. She ended the story wondering what people are actually looking for!
Few months back a South African lady was dissappointed in me when I couldn’t connect her with a Cameroonian prophet in Buea. She wanted at all cost to meet the prophet for her problem to be solved. I wondered why she thought all the prophets and God’s messengers in South Africa could not be of help to her.
The premier Christian map of Cameroon showed areas of concentration of different denominations. There was a mutual unwritten understanding that all denominations had a common message to present; at such there was no need for duplicity.
Denominational competitiveness and rivalry is not Christocentric.
We are not doubting that some people are destined to receive a special touch from some particular persons. Naaman travelled overseas to be cured of his leprosy by Elisha, yet there were many lepers in Elisha’s homeland but he did not cure them(Lk.4:27).
With Christ distance is not an impediment. He meets your needs where you are. You do not have to travel overseas to meet him. He healed ten lepers who “stood at a distance and called out to him, ‘Jesus, Master, have oity on us!'”
When the ten lepers were clesnsed, only a foreigner among them came to give thanks and praise God. This man, “When he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him…” Crisscrossing the world in search of spiritual solutions can bring only temporary relief, not salvation. This man did not only receive physical healing; he received salvation as well. Like the other nine he had been cleansed but when he realized the awesomeness of God in his life, and came back and gave thanks and praise, the Lord told him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
Dear friend, it is good to always appreciate those who have done us good. When a fowl sips water it raises its head heavenward to thank God the provider. In the same way we should cling at the feet of Jesus Christ our Lord in perpetual praise and thanksgiving.
Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for grace and mercy received through you. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
