“Everybody Is Somebody In God’s Scale Of Preference!”
Sons of the native soil who choose to serve as shepherds (ganakoh) are regarded by the rest of the people as the worst of lowlife! Sometimes their parents even insult them that they are behaving like the cows that they shepherd.
Yet in God’s scale of preference these are the category of people to whom the angel chose to bring the “good news of great joy that will be for all the people…” The angel met them in the fields tending the cattle under their care. They were not some white collar bourgeoisie in some glass panelled sophisticated air-conditioned office. They were not the most brilliant category! Shepherds are generally the ones who were never-do-wells at school.
Of course, even the parents of Jesus were still of lowlife. Imagine a local village carpenter who practiced his proffession when there was yet no modern furniture. That was the man God chose as husband to a local girl who gave birth to the Saviour of humankind!(Lk. 2:1-20).
Oh to think that such a great-to-be personality was placed in a manger! The ways of God are not our ways. God is not interested in social status. Social stratification is man-made for egoistic reasons!
My friend, be proud of the job you are doing at the moment. If life must go on smoothly then all professions and trades must exist! The fact that you are a cleaner does not make you less important in God’s eyes! Yes, you may be a cleaner, but you are still the Apple of God’s eye! What matters is that in “whatever your task, work heartily as serving the Lord and not men.”
Be truthful and honest! Be regular at your workplace because it is at your workplace that God is going to send his angel to come deliver your good news! God loves you as you are and he fully appreciates the job you are doing now!
As you await the good tidings of joy that the angels are about to proclaim, just thank God that you are at least a priority project of salvation to him!
