“Doing The Will Of The Father!”(Mt.7:21-23).
A main reason why people leave from any denomination to start their own is their discontent concerning the rift between what is said and what is practiced.
That notwithstanding, it doesn’t take long before any new church falls into the same error of doing what they aimed to correct. The wide gap between what is said and what is done.
Hundreds of years after the abolition of the slave trade, when you visit the Castle at Cape Coast, Ghana and you are led into the dungeon where the slaves were packed, you can still see telltales of dried human blood on the floor. This windowless stone dungeon was intended for less that a hundred people, but they use to pack not less than five hundred people inside. The bitter irony of it all is that the floor above was a chapel for the slave handlers. While on Sunday they worshipped and glorified God above, beneath them people were wailing in agony, rolling and dieing in their own poo, pee and blood!
The inquisition, the slave trade, apartheid and racial segregation anywhere it happened were all structural institutionalized sin; a contradiction between word and action!
We all identify with Christ Jesus in baptism and profess him as our Lord and Saviour. But does he know us?
The Lord says, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evil doers!'”(Mt.7:21-23).
It is not so much about structural or insttitutionalized sin as in the story above, it is so much about you and I as individuals who identify with Christ Jesus.
The ability to prophesy or to cast out demons or to perform miracles in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ does not guarantee our citizenship in heaven.
Dear friend, this message is a call for introspection leading to repentance! Let us seek the will of the Father and do it.
Prayer: Holy Spirit constantly show me the will of God and help me to do it. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
