“By His Wounds We Are Healed!”(Is.53).
When the Ethiopian eunuch read part of this passage(chapter) from Isaiah he asked Philip the question which should be on the lips of all who seek to know Christ more and more. He asked Philip, “Tell me, please who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” Philip opened his eyes to the truth that the present was a fulfilment of the past. “…Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus”(Acts 8:34-35).
The Magi from the east saw the star of Jesus as “the one who has been born king of the Jews…”(Mt.2:1-2). Jesus was born as king, he was not born and was later crowned king.
Unfortunately his identity remained obscure because “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire. He was despised and rejected by men,…he was despised, and we esteemed him not.”
“Beauty and majesty” are misleading attractions and standards for categorization. Beauty is from within. Abdul Kalam said, “Where there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character. When there is beauty in the character, there is harmony in the home. When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation. When there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world.”
Jesus is the number One personality who should be esteemed by even the esteemed of this world! Our consolation is that “it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer…” Yet, “he took our infirmities and carried our sorrows…he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.” “He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”
In this was love! If Jesus the king of kings did all these for our sake, how much more should we do the same for others!
This is a cherished often quoted verse:“By his wounds we are healed.” Can we also be a means by which some others find healing in a broken and fragmented world like ours! Make a sacrifice today that will bring healing to just one person.
Prayer of the week: Holy Spirit help me not to take for granted the shame, pain and suffering of our Lord and Saviour. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
