“Bringing Back The LORD’s Presence!”(I Chron.13:5-8).
It was a sad day for the Israelites but more for Eli’ family. On that fateful day during Israel’s battle against the Philistines, the Ark of the Covenant of God was captured in the battlefield. Eli’s two sons were killed. When Eli heard the news he fell and died and his pregnant daughter-in-law went into forced labour, gave birth but passed away. Before dieing she gave a beffiting name to the child. She named him “Ichabod,” saying, “The glory has departed from Israel, for the Ark of God has been captured”(I Sam.4:10-22).
The Ark was in Philistine for seven months. The Ark caused lots of death among them so they arranged for it to be returned to the Israelites. They returned the Ark and the men of Kiriath-Jearim took it to Abinadab’s house…and consecrated Eleazar his son to guard the ark of the LORD.” It was there for twenty years; during which time “all the people of Israel mourned and sought after the LORD “(I Sam.4:-7:2).
Our text for today narrates how “David assembled all the Israelites…to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-Jearim…”
It was a day of great jubilation for all Israel. “David and all the Israelites were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs and with harps, lyres, tambourines, cymbals and trumpets.”
When the late venerable Very Nyansako-ni-Nku said, “Cameroon keep God,” it is because he saw God being captured and taken away by the enemy. Esoteric fraternities have taken the nation hostage and this is evident with bedlam everywhere and news of horrible deaths by the hour!
There is need to bring back and keep God! We look forward to that day when a David will assemble all the people and receive back the LORD so that the people would no longer mourn and sought the face of the LORD.
We look forward to such a day of great jubilation when we would bring out our rattles, zylophones, ndenges, drums, calabash rattles, our tikwa’s and burst forth in songs of praise to the LORD that he has once again made his dwelling in our (hearts) midsts!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ we know you are coming soon. Come quickly Lord and make your face shine upon us and be gracious to us once again. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
