“Boast In The Things That Show Your Weakness!”(II Cor.11:21b-30).
A boaster is often ruthless and heartless(Cf. Rom.1:30).To be ruthless is to have or show “No Pity” or compassion for others, to be heartless is to display a complete lack of feeling or consideration.
Those who declare war and those who prepare for war – no matter what justification they may give – are boastful, faithless, ruthless and heartless!
People direct their energies developing various kinds of war weapons; especially weapons of mass destruction. We can join the politicians to say these weapons are intended to safeguard territories etc. But it is obvious that some in positions of power, and with the right of decision making do decide to test their strength by declaring war as it happens from time to time; and as it is happening now. Mussolini, Bonarparte, Hitler, Putin; just to name a few renowned ones.
Testing one’s military strength against another in this generation can only degenerate into a show of strength among world super powers. A show of strength is motivated by the desire to boast; to proof that you are the best.
Barely six days into the invasion of Ukraine the death toll is rising. People are displaced, many are fleeing to wherever, leading to a refugee challenge.
Sanctions are already becoming a heavy burden upon the masses. The brunt of the sanctions may affect whole continents. In all this power-play those who call the shots can comfortably survive the storm, no matter how long it takes. They have the wherewithal!
In all these, the masses are the ones who bear the brunt. The elephants are fighting, but the grass on the field of fight suffers. All these because those who call the shots are ruthless and heartless! Decision makers should like Paul ask themselves, “Who is weak, and I do not feel weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn?”
Left and right, this way and that way we are receiving messages like,“Pray for Ukraine…” But before you pray for Ukraine how tenderhearted and compassionate are you as you decide for your family, or your group, your church, your quarter or village? Etc, etc! Do you feel weak when others are weak? Do you burn inwardly when others are led into sin?
How empathetic are you towards others?
My friend,if you must boast, boast of the things that show your weakness! Those who boasts in the things that show their strength are ruthless and heartless!
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me to always feel the pain of others, and to boast only in the things that show my weakness. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
