“Believe In The Testimony Of God!”(I Jn.5:9-13).
Che and Ngala were very good friends. Ngala had an accident which took away his life. At the funeral Che wept more than all family members. Almost all the mourners concluded that Che loved his friend so much.
In his dirge Che asked, “who will believe me?” Che had given a loan of two million frs CFA to his deceased friend without any witness nor a loan receipt.
The world is full of mistrust, insincerity, evil scheming and falsehood, and logic, to wit: the question always is, *”Is there any proof?”, or, “Do you have any witnesses?”
From the time of Jesus’ ministry to this present time what makes it difficult for some people to believe in Jesus Christ is the insistence on proof. The Mosaic law demanded for two or three witnesses whose testimony corroborated each other, in order to establish credibility and truth (Dt.19:15).
Jesus for example had only one witness, John the Baptist, who testified about him as the great one who was coming and who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.
We may accept human testimony, *”but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son.”* God’s testimony is that “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
Indeed, without the Son of God we go tbrough the motions of life without actually living!
John’s letter was intended to counteract the misleading teachings of Gnosticism and to educate genuine believers on the truth of God in Christ. The tentacles of Gnosticism spreads wider within the sheepfold under various names.
John’s message is still addressed to the inclusive Church, but specifically “to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
Life in all its fullness is living a fulfilled life in the now with the assurance of an eternal blissful life after this life.
We have all like heady sheep wandered off to graze on poisonous fodder, “but the Lord still longs to be gracious to us…” My friend, whether you have turned to the right or to the left, “your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it'”(Is.30:18-22).
Rejoice therefore and be glad with those who tell you, “Let us go to the house of the Lord”(Ps.123:1) to meet Jesus Christ the bread of life!
Sunday prayer: Father, thank you Lord Jesus Christ. In you I have life because I have you. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
Rev. Babila Fochang.
