“Being God’s Fellow Worker!”(I Cor.3:7-9)
Few days ago my immediate predecessor paid me a visit. In the course of our discussion he remarked that great developmental changes have taken place within the church premises.
I told him that certain things just happen at particular times according to God’s timing. I reminded him that he and other predecessors had laid the groundwork for what is now taking place.
Prsently world attention is focused on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. At first sight the blame is on Russia but as we begin to learn more about what is happening, we realise that Russia’s atrack on Ukraine is like beating a dog to challenge its owner. It is a power-play for world dominancy and supremacy. But what do I know?
What is happening is the continuous rivalry between the man who plants and the man who waters. It is the quest for making a name for self! It is about ego. It is about the urge to boast that one is the best!
The one who plants and the one who waters sometimes forget that they have one purpose! It is the failure to realise that “neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything” because it is “only God who makes things grow.”
When we know this truth we would be humbled like Job. When the many bad news came to Job and he realised that he had lost everything in one day, “Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.” Rather,“Job…fell to the ground in worship,” saying, ‘…The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised'”(Job.1:1-22).
Yes, it is neither by might nor by power! It is only as the Lord wants it to be! This is not to discourage effort, rather it is to open us to the consciousness that,“Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.” But “blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways.” They eat the fruit of their labors and blessings and prosperity are theirs”(Ps.127:1-2 &128:1-5).
My friend, in all your plans, plan with God for as the Lord Jesus Christ says,“If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing”(Jn.15:5).
Be content in doing the work assigned to you and let God take the glory! We are merely “God’s fellow workers.” Do not forget your purpose.“Each will be rewarded according to his own labor.”
Today the Church inaugurates the planting season for 2022 and that is why today is seed blessing Sunday. You are most likely going to plant seeds that you bought from somebody. You are most likely going to hire daily pay workers to till the soil for you. All these people are making a contribution to the crops you will have at harvest time. Recognise their contributions and give God the glory for he is the one who makes the crops to grow and yield abundantly,
Sunday prayer: Heavenly Father, bless the works of my hand and take the glory for being the architect of my efforts. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
