“Be On Guard…!”
One phrase from my Economics teacher which my memory stubbornly clings to is “caveat emptor.” I checked on the meaning and it states, “the principle that the buyer alone is responsible for checking the quality and suitability of goods before a purchase is made.” In simpler terms, “Let the buyer beware.”
Truth be told, some sellers can sweet talk you into buying valueless goods. The Christian landscape is inundated with orators who parcel misleading theologies in alluring packages! The vulnerable and gullible are easily preyed upon. In his day Jesus told his disciples, “Be careful…Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” In simple words he was saying they should “guard against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees “(Mt.16:5-12).
My friend, we may be giving you the word with the best of intentions, or it can be that we intentionally peddle the word for selfish motives. It can also be that we mislead through false interpretations or that we prescribe for others what we ourselves do not take. Jesus says you the consumer has the
final responsibility to determine what is consumable.
Scripture says, “…Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world…”(I Jn.4:13). Yes, pray for discernment, but above all pray for the Holy Spirit to indwell you so that you can distinguish betwwen truth and subterfuge!
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit help me not to propagate or accept any false teaching. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
