“Always Find Out What Pleases The Lord And Act On It!”(Eph.5:1-10).
“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God…For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.”
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light…” Darkness and light here are used as metaphors. Darkness is evil or wickedness incarnated. It is the perversity of the old ways in contrast to light which comes through the new life found in Christ Jesus.
Light is “the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible.” What we know about light is that, no matter the object that produces light, light itself is not the end user. In other words, light does not benefit itself. Light’s purpose is to benefit its users.
To this end Jesus says of us, “You are the light of the world…let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven”(Mt.5:13-16).
Once we become light we spend ourselves for others not to seek the praise of people, but that praise should be given to our Father in heaven. We are merely tools in the hands of the user. A tool does not take credit for work done. The user is the one who receives the accolade.
The sacrificial death of Jesus Christ shows the depth of his and the Father’s love for us. We are called upon to imitate Christ but as humanbeings we may be limited. That notwithstanding, the light we emit should be seen in the virtues of goodness, righteousness and truth.
Yes my friend, we can heal the world of darkness if each one of us shines her/his light in the little dark corner where s/he is.
It is important that at any given moment we should find out what pleases the Lord; and when found, we should decide and act on it!
Weekend prayer: Lord Jesus Christ help me to walk your footsteps and live a life of love, and to be a light in the Lord. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
