“Good News To The Sheep II!”(Jer.23:1-4).
Somebody asked me whether I’m being serious when on Mondays I keep saying “Welcome back to a new working day and week. “Have a blessed working day and week?”
This question stems from the fact that in the restive North West Region of homeland activities are comatose on Mondays.
Offices and businesses may not be opened on Mondays, but the majority of people have looked for alternative work to do on Mondays. Some people go to the farm, some do gardening around the house, some do sewing at home, some write chapters of a book, etc! We can always replace work with some kind of work. By the way, our readership extends to the USA, Europe, UAE. Douala and Yaounde are where we have the majority of our online faithfuls.
Back to today’s text from prophet Jeremiah, the LORD declares imminent punishment on those who have scattered his flock and driven them away and have not bestowed care on them. This is an evil that the LORD cannot condone with.
The shepherds are both political and religious leaders. The invasion of Judah and subsequent exile was because the king of Judah made a political mistake as he failed to listen to the advice of prophet Jeremiah. The king was motivated to act on the contrary because he depended on the false prophets who said, “Peace, peace, when there was no peace!” True to the saying that underneath any political crisis is a spiritual crisis.
Shepherds that we are, religious and political, we are guilty of the chaos and mayhem that our people are experiencing. Whoever resides in the North West Region of Cameroon and agrees that “everything is under control” is living in Dreamland! We go about freely, but we are walking constantly in the shadow of death. Dear prophet, if you have not been in the counsel of the LORD, do not tell the king that his decision is in the will of God!
The good news to us: The LORD promises to gather us the remnants of his flock from the lands of our dispersion. He will bring us back to our pasture, where we will be fruitful and increase in number. He will place shepherds over us who will tend us. We will no longer be afraid or terrified, and none of us will be missing. Hallelujah!
The LORD has already done it as he has given his Son Jesus Christ as the good shepherd who defended his flock with his blood!
Those are truly his sheep know his voice and follow him. He says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me”(Rev.3:20).
Hellooo, have you heard the knock, and have you heard his voice? Have you opened the door of your heart to him?
Prayer of the day and week: Holy Spirit, help me to hear the knock on the door, identify the voice, and open to the good shepherd. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working day and week! Have a blessed working day and week! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
