“It Shall Be Well (Things Go Better)!”(Ho.2:16-22).
If prophet Hosea was a modern day clergy his denomination would have suspended him and eventually dismiss him because he could not manage his home. He married a woman whose infidelity was exaggerated.
Unfortunately Hosea was just a pawn in a game of chess. His marriage was acting out how Israel behaved like an adulterous wife to God her husband(Ho.1).
Despite her adulterous lifestyle God asked Hosea to go and reconcile with his wife. In the same way, even though Israel flirted with Baal, God still assured them of a day of reconciliation (Ho.3).
When I read this text the rich agricultural land the North and South West regions came to my mind. I pictured the abandoned banana plantations along the Tiko-Douala road and Ekona bananas. I remembered the conversations I’ve had with some of my Christians and each lamenting about either the plantations, plantain plantations or other agricultural ventures they had invested heavily in, but which have now become thick bushes.
Last evening I made calls to some Nurses in charge of medical facilities in my village to arrange how to deliver to them today some medical reagents from an NGO. Each of them responded as if they had been in a meeting. Each of them said it depended on how tomorrow(today) would look like, because they weren’tsure how safe the day would be.
I asked myself, “Isn’t it obvious that what is happening to us is punishment from God because we burned incense to the Baals and went after our lovers while forgetting the Lord even though the whole place is littered with churches?”
That notwithstanding, God is a God of second chances! He has set a day for a new covenant if only we return to him. The Lord is soon to deal with us “in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion…in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the Lord.”
Remember, we may be created in the image of God – which makes us superior to other creatures – but we are nothing without them. The the Lord will provoke a chain reaction as he says,“In that day…I will respond to the skies, and they will respond to the earth; and the earth will respond to the grain…” When this chain reaction is set in motion, we shall all once again enjoy the sweets of our land. More than this, the Lord will abolish weapons of war “from the land so that all may lie down in safety.”
Bottomline: Let us return to the Lord in order to be restored.
Prayer: Thank you Lord for the assurance that you won’t abandon us in our destitution. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
